WatchStocks - The Table Settings Window

The Table Settings Window

The Table Settings Window

Some stock quote sites are heavyly disdesigned. There are tables with a different number of columns in the rows. There are caption rows within the table or comments in some rows below the caption row.
In such cases the WatchStocks program cannot decide by itself what the needed information is - and what is simply meaningless...
Circumventing this problem the 'Table-Settings-Window' gives You the chance to configure the interpretation of the table by hand. But, be carefull, use only the configuration You really need.

The stocks-server-list

The stocks-server-list contains all the servers that are in the Server-List ('Settings'-window). To configure the interpretation of a table from a (problem-) server, first select this server from the drop-down-list.

The 'Caption'-row

If the table caption row is not in the first row, or the program cannot find the caption row by other reasons, You should set this row number to the correct value. In all other cases this setting remains '?'!

The 'First-Entry'-row

If the stock-value list does not start in the row below the caption row (You'll see some new stock names in the WatchList, that are not stock names), then You should set this row number to the correct value. In all other cases this setting remains '?'!

The 'Name'-column

If You see a very strange behavior of the program, f.ex. resulting in not finding any stocks at all, then You should set this column number to the correct value. In all other cases this setting remains '?'!

The 'Price'-column

If You see a very strange behavior of the program, f.ex. resulting in not finding any stocks at all, then You should set this column number to the correct value. In all other cases this setting remains '?'!

A Tip

Before You change a setting in this window take a look at the Web-Site containing the problem-table with Your Web-Browser. Note which positions the stock-names and stock-values have...

New since 2002-07-10

In some cases the program might detect the correct table positions -- even when configured 'by hand'. In these cases You might see a hint, but You need to change the settings by Yourself!
