WatchStocks - Installation

WatchStocks installation preconditions

You must have JAVA 1.3 (or newer) installed on Your machine and Your operating system must support long file names (Recommended operating systems: eComStation, Linux, etc. -- see: next page).

Your systems screen resolution should be 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600 (higher or lower resolutions are not tested). Higher resolutions may work, tell me if You know...

Because there are no restrictions for the number of stocks that can be queried (registered program), enshure that You have at least 10MByte free space on the drive where You install the WatchStocks.

Where to install

WatchStocks can be installed to a directory of Your own choice. It is always a good idea to install programs to a drive different from Your boot drive. This way Your operating system and all Your program files can be changed (or removed or reinstalled) without effecting each other...

Attention:

Create a directory

Before installing (not for an update) You must create a directory for WatchStocks.
Here are the instructions for Windows users (users of other operating systems will surely know how to do this):

Download the file Stocks.jar

Go to the Download-Page and download the file Stocks.jar to the directory just created (i.e.: C:\Stocks). Do not rename the file Stocks.jar!

Start WatchStocks for the first time

Here are the instructions for Windows users (users of other operating systems will surely know how to do this):
(Still assuming You are installing to C:\Stocks)

Subsequent starts of WatchStocks

You can start WatchStocks as descibed in 'Start WatchStocks for the first time'.
--Or You can use the Stocks.bat file contained in Your Stocks directory.
You might create a program object for this *.bat file on your desktop...

Check if the file name is (case-sensitive) Stocks.jar. Check even the extension .jar! If the name does not match do the following
